Lip & Chin Laser Hair Removal in Mirdif, Dubai

Villa 44C, 83rd Street, Mirdif Medically supervised +971 4 268 8226

Lip and chin laser hair removal in Mirdif, Dubai covers the two most requested areas on a woman’s face. They also behave very differently from one another, which nobody tells you at booking. At Dermabloom Medical Center, Villa 44C, 83rd Street, Mirdif, Dr Sarah Magdy sets separate expectations for each. To book, call 04 268 8226 or message +971 56 598 6039.

Both zones respond well. However, the chin takes longer, needs more maintenance and depends more on your hormones. Meanwhile the upper lip carries its own two issues — pigmentation and cold sores.

Two Zones, Two Different Timelines

Upper lip Chin and jawline
Hair type Usually finer, often a mix of fine and coarse Coarsest terminal hair on the face
Typical sessions Six to eight Eight to twelve, sometimes more
Hormonal sensitivity Moderate Highest of any facial site
Maintenance Occasional Likely ongoing, especially with PCOS
Comfort The more sensitive of the two Easier than the lip
Main extra risk Pigmentation and cold sore reactivation Folliculitis from plucking

Booking them together makes sense, since one appointment covers both. Just do not expect them to finish together.

The Chin Responds to Your Hormones More Than Anywhere Else

Chin and jawline follicles are the most androgen-sensitive on a woman’s face. Consequently the chin is usually where coarse hair appears first, and it is also the last place to clear.

Two practical results follow. Firstly, expect more sessions here than on the lip — often eight to twelve rather than six. Secondly, expect some ongoing maintenance, particularly if a hormonal driver sits behind the hair.

That driver matters enormously, and polycystic ovary syndrome accounts for most of it. Our full face page covers the assessment, the differential and the warning signs that need prompt investigation. Please read it if coarse chin hair has appeared or worsened recently, because treating the hair without checking the cause produces a course that looks like it failed.

The Dark Shadow on Your Upper Lip May Not Be Hair

This is the single most useful thing on this page, so it deserves its own section.

Many women describe their upper lip as dark and assume the hair causes it. Frequently, though, the darkness is pigment in the skin rather than shadow from the hair. Years of waxing, threading and plucking inflame the area repeatedly, and inflamed skin in Fitzpatrick IV to VI responds by making pigment.

Dermatologists call that post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Here is why it matters: removing the hair will not clear it. So a woman can finish a full laser course, lose every hair, and still see a dark upper lip — then reasonably conclude the treatment did nothing.

We separate the two at consultation. Laser handles the hair permanently, and it stops new pigment forming by ending the trauma cycle. Meanwhile the existing pigment needs its own treatment, along with daily SPF 50 and patience. Knowing which problem you actually have changes what you buy.

Cold Sores: Tell Us Before We Treat Your Lip

Laser around the mouth can reactivate herpes simplex. If you get cold sores, even rarely, say so at consultation rather than at the handpiece.

The risk is manageable and the fix is simple. Dr Sarah may prescribe an antiviral to start before your session and continue for a few days afterwards. Additionally we never treat over an active cold sore, since that spreads infection and risks scarring — we reschedule instead.

Nobody should treat a perioral area without asking this question. It is a short conversation that prevents an unpleasant week.

The Hardest Part Is Not Plucking

Let us be realistic about compliance, because this is where courses go wrong.

Most women with chin hair pluck it daily. Laser asks you to stop threading, waxing and plucking four weeks before the first session and throughout the entire course. The laser needs the follicle and its hair intact, so a plucked follicle simply gets missed and your session pays for nothing.

Four weeks of visible chin hair is a genuinely hard ask, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. So here is what actually works:

  • Shave the area. Shaving does not coarsen hair — that is a myth — and it leaves the follicle intact.
  • Trim single hairs flush to the skin with small scissors or a facial trimmer.
  • Time your first session for a quieter fortnight rather than the week of a wedding.
  • Tell us if you slipped. We would rather adjust the session than treat a bare follicle.

After two or three sessions the urge fades, because there is far less to pluck.

The Last Few Hairs: When Electrolysis Is the Right Answer

Laser clears the great majority and then leaves a handful behind. Two situations explain most of them.

Grey, white, blonde and red hairs have no melanin, so the laser cannot see them at all. No number of extra sessions changes that. Additionally, a few stubborn coarse hairs on the chin sometimes survive an otherwise excellent course.

Electrolysis solves both, because it works on the follicle electrically rather than through pigment. It treats one hair at a time, which makes it impractical for a whole face and ideal for a dozen holdouts. So the sensible sequence is laser first for the bulk, then electrolysis for the remainder.

We would rather tell you this at consultation than sell you three more laser sessions that cannot work.

Device Choice Depends on Your Skin

  • Nd:YAG 1064nm for Fitzpatrick IV to VI. The longer wavelength cuts competing absorption by melanin in the skin itself, which matters on an upper lip already prone to pigmentation.
  • Alexandrite and diode for Fitzpatrick I to V.
  • IPL does not suit darker skin.

A test patch always comes first. We then set the fluence high enough to destroy the follicle, since under-treating facial hair carries its own risks — our full face page explains that in detail.

What It Will Not Do

  • Treat grey, white, blonde or red hair. Electrolysis handles those.
  • Remove fine downy hair on the cheeks or lip.
  • Clear existing upper lip pigmentation, as above.
  • Fix a hormonal cause, so chin hair may keep arriving.
  • Stop cold sores — it can trigger them.
  • Work on tanned skin.
  • Come undone. Treated follicles do not return.

Your Course

  1. Consultation. Dr Sarah examines both zones, checks your Fitzpatrick type and any existing pigmentation, and separates hair from pigment as the problem. She also asks about periods, acne, medication, cold sores and family history.
  2. Test patch, followed by a short wait.
  3. Treatment. Five to ten minutes for both zones, with cooling throughout.
  4. Course. Six to eight sessions for the lip and eight to twelve for the chin, four to six weeks apart.
  5. Maintenance, occasional on the lip and more likely ongoing on the chin.

Because the appointment is so short, most women fit it into a lunch break.

Before and After

Before: shave the area the day before or the morning of treatment. Stop threading, waxing, plucking and epilating four weeks beforehand. Pause retinoids and acids for five to seven days. Avoid sun and self-tan for two to four weeks, and arrive with no makeup, sunscreen or moisturiser on the area. Tell us about cold sores, isotretinoin, photosensitising medication and pregnancy.

Afterwards: expect redness and small bumps around the follicles for a few hours to a day. Cool compresses and a bland moisturiser settle it. Meanwhile leave makeup off for the rest of the day, and skip gym, sauna, steam and hot baths for 48 hours. Restart retinoids and acids after five to seven days. Above all, wear SPF 50 daily — the upper lip pigments easily, and sun undoes your progress. Shedding over one to three weeks is normal, and it is not regrowth.

Risks

Common and expected: redness, perifollicular swelling, brief stinging, and shedding of treated hairs over the following weeks. The upper lip stings more than the chin.

Less common: post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which the upper lip is particularly prone to; temporary hypopigmentation; folliculitis on the chin; and a flare of acne.

Uncommon but more consequential: herpes simplex reactivation after perioral treatment, which antiviral cover prevents in most cases. Paradoxical hypertrichosis affects the face and neck occasionally, and our full face page covers it properly. Burns, blistering and scarring occur rarely, usually after treating tanned skin.

Who We Cannot Treat

Laser does not suit recently tanned or sunburned skin, an active cold sore, active infection, open wounds, inflamed lesions, actively flaring melasma, or a photosensitivity disorder. We also work around permanent makeup, lip blush, tattoos and any pigmented lesion rather than treating over them.

Please raise these before booking: pregnancy, recent isotretinoin, photosensitising medication, a keloid tendency, vitiligo or another pigmentary disorder, and any facial mole that has changed. We assess a changing lesion first — see skin lesion excision.

Price

We price the upper lip and the chin individually, and combined as one course. Combining costs less than two separate courses, although the chin usually needs more sessions — so ask how that works in practice. Compare course prices rather than single-session prices, since nobody finishes a face in one visit. Dermabloom quotes a firm price at consultation, naming the zones and the device — call 04 268 8226. UAE health insurance does not cover cosmetic hair removal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my chin need more sessions than my lip?

Chin and jawline follicles are the most androgen-sensitive on a woman’s face. So the chin usually grows the coarsest hair, shows hormonal change first, and clears last. Expect eight to twelve sessions there against six to eight on the lip. Ongoing maintenance is also likelier on the chin, particularly where a hormonal driver such as PCOS sits behind the hair.

My upper lip looks dark — will laser fix that?

Only partly, and this catches many women out. The darkness is often pigment in the skin rather than shadow from hair. Years of waxing, threading and plucking inflame the area, and inflamed skin in Fitzpatrick IV to VI makes pigment. Laser removes the hair permanently and stops new pigment forming, yet the existing pigment needs its own treatment plus daily SPF 50.

I get cold sores — can I still have my lip treated?

Usually yes, with cover. Laser around the mouth can reactivate herpes simplex, so tell us at consultation even if outbreaks are rare. Dr Sarah may prescribe an antiviral to begin before your session and continue for a few days after. We never treat over an active cold sore, because that spreads infection and risks scarring — we reschedule instead.

Do I really have to stop plucking my chin for four weeks?

Yes, and it is the hardest part of any facial course. The laser needs the follicle and its hair intact, so a plucked follicle gets missed and your session pays for nothing. Shave instead, or trim single hairs flush with small scissors. Shaving does not coarsen hair — that is a myth. After two or three sessions the urge fades anyway.

A few stubborn hairs are left after my course. What now?

Electrolysis, most likely. It works on the follicle electrically rather than through pigment, so it handles hairs the laser cannot see. That makes it the right finisher for a dozen holdouts, and impractical for a whole face. The sensible sequence is laser for the bulk, then electrolysis for the remainder — rather than three more laser sessions that cannot work.

What about my grey or white hairs?

Laser cannot treat them at all. It targets melanin in the hair, and grey, white, blonde and red hairs have none, so no number of extra sessions helps. Electrolysis is the answer for those. We will tell you at consultation how much of your hair falls into this category, so your expectations match what laser can actually deliver.

How long does the appointment take?

Five to ten minutes for both zones with cooling throughout, so most women fit it into a lunch break. Sessions sit four to six weeks apart, because facial hair cycles faster than body hair. The consultation and test patch take longer than the treatment itself.

Does the upper lip hurt?

It is the more sensitive of the two zones, although it is over quickly. Most women describe a hot snap with each pulse rather than pain, and integrated cooling helps considerably. The chin feels easier. Discomfort also drops noticeably from the third session as hair density falls.

Can I wear makeup afterwards?

Leave it off for the rest of that day, since treated follicles are open and irritable. From the next morning it is fine. Meanwhile skip gym, sauna, steam and hot baths for 48 hours, and restart retinoids and acids after five to seven days. Daily SPF 50 matters throughout, because the upper lip pigments easily.

I have lip blush or permanent makeup. Is that a problem?

We work around it rather than over it. Laser energy interacts unpredictably with cosmetic pigment, which risks burning and colour change. So tell us exactly where the pigment sits, and we will map the treatment area around it. The same applies to any tattoo and to any pigmented lesion on the face.

Should I book the lip alone or both zones?

Both, if both bother you, since one appointment covers them and combining costs less than two courses. Bear in mind the chin usually needs more sessions, so ask how the combined course handles that. If only the lip bothers you, treat only the lip — there is no advantage in buying a zone you do not mind.

Will the chin hair come back?

The follicles we destroy do not return. However, a hormonal driver keeps turning new fine follicles into coarse ones, and the chin responds to that more than any other facial site. So new hair is possible, especially with untreated PCOS. That is the condition continuing rather than the laser failing, which is why the cause deserves checking.

Can I have it while pregnant?

We do not treat during pregnancy. No evidence suggests harm, yet nobody has studied it properly, so waiting is the sensible answer. Pregnancy also shifts hormones and pigmentation considerably, which affects both your result and the pigmentation risk on the upper lip. Shaving stays perfectly safe meanwhile, and we will hold your plan until afterwards.

Laser hair reduction is a medical procedure. A licensed medical practitioner must see you face to face and assess your skin first. The accurate term is permanent hair reduction rather than permanent removal, and laser does not put treated hair back. Laser cannot treat grey, white, blonde or red hair, nor fine vellus hair; electrolysis addresses those. Coarse chin hair in women often reflects an underlying hormonal cause, most commonly polycystic ovary syndrome, so new hair may still appear after a completed course. Laser does not clear existing upper lip pigmentation, which needs separate treatment. Treatment around the mouth can reactivate herpes simplex, so declare any cold sore history before booking. We do not treat during pregnancy, over an active cold sore, on recently tanned skin, over permanent makeup or lip blush, or over pigmented lesions. Darker skin types carry a higher risk of pigmentary change. Nothing on this page is a diagnosis. Laser does not suit everyone, and results vary between individuals.
