Lip filler in Mirdif, Dubai should add definition, hydration and balance —
not size for its own sake. At Dermabloom Medical Center, Villa 44C, 83rd Street, Mirdif,
Dr Sarah Magdy treats lips conservatively, respects the natural border, and uses reversible
hyaluronic acid so anything can be changed. Call

Lips are the most requested filler area and the one most often done badly. Not because the
technique is difficult in itself, but because lips are unforgiving: they move constantly, the
skin above the border is thin, and product placed slightly wrong shows immediately and lasts
months. The specific failure — migration — has its own section below, because it is the reason
most “bad lips” look the way they do.
Dermal fillers are regulated medical devices, administered following a face-to-face
consultation. They are not suitable for everyone.
The Anatomy That Determines Your Result
A good lip result comes from treating structures, not just adding volume. What gets
assessed:
- Vermillion border. The ridge outlining the lip. Definition here creates
a crisp, youthful edge — and it is the line product must stay inside. - Cupid’s bow. The double curve of the upper lip. Sharpening it does more
for lip appearance than volume does. - Philtral columns. The two ridges running from nose to lip. Supporting
them lifts and shapes the upper lip. - Tubercles. The natural fullness pads within the lip body. Treating
these individually keeps lips looking like lips rather than a tube. - Wet-dry border. Where the outer lip meets the inner. Product placed
correctly relative to this determines whether lips look full or look pushed forward. - Oral commissures. The corners. Downturned corners often need support
here rather than more volume in the body. - Upper-to-lower ratio. Roughly 1:1.6 in favour of the lower lip is a
common Western reference — but preference varies considerably by individual and cultural
aesthetic, and your ratio is discussed rather than assumed.
Migration: Why Most “Bad Lips” Look That Way
The duck-lip look, the shelf above the mouth, the puffy area between lip and nose — that is
almost always migration: filler that has moved above the vermillion border
into the skin where it does not belong.
What causes it:
- Too much product in one session
- Product placed too superficially, or outside the border to begin with
- Repeat top-ups before the previous filler has broken down, so product stacks up
- Treating lips too frequently over years without ever dissolving
Once it happens, adding more filler makes it worse — and this is where people get stuck,
because the lips look wrong and the instinct is to top them up. The fix is dissolving with
hyaluronidase, letting the tissue settle, then rebuilding properly.
If you already have migration, say so at consultation. It is a common and correctable
situation, and you will be given a plan rather than more product.
What We Treat
- Naturally thin lips — subtle volume with definition, built across
sessions rather than in one go - Loss of definition with age — the border and cupid’s bow flatten over
time, often the single most ageing lip change - Dehydrated, flat-looking lips — where hydration matters more than
volume - Asymmetry — almost everyone has some; the goal is improvement, not
perfect symmetry, which does not exist in nature - Downturned corners — supported at the commissures, sometimes alongside
toxin - A short or inverted upper lip — where philtral support and eversion
matter more than filling - Male lip treatment — different goals entirely: definition and hydration
without feminising projection
What lip filler does not fix: fine vertical lines around the mouth
(smoker’s lines) need skin treatment such as microneedling or very superficial technique, not
volume; a long upper lip is a structural issue filler cannot shorten; and heavy perioral
wrinkling with thin, sun-damaged skin needs the skin treated first.
Technique and How Much
Lips take soft, low-density HA products — firmer fillers used elsewhere on the face are
wrong here and feel lumpy. Placement is inside the lip body, at correct depth, in small
aliquots.
Volume for a first treatment: 0.5ml to 1ml. Not more. This is the single
most important number on this page. One millilitre is roughly a fifth of a teaspoon and does
more than people expect. Building across two sessions a few weeks apart gives a better result
than one large treatment, because the tissue is allowed to accommodate gradually.
Anyone offering you two or three syringes in your first lip appointment is not planning
your lips — they are selling product.
Combination options: a lip flip using a tiny dose of botulinum toxin rolls
the upper lip slightly outward and can enhance a filler result or, in some patients, achieve
enough on its own. It is discussed where relevant — see
botox full face.
Swelling: Set Your Expectations Properly
Lips swell more than any other filler area, and first-timers are routinely alarmed by it.
This is normal:
- Hours 0–24. Swelling builds. Lips may look considerably larger than the
final result, and often uneven. - Days 1–2. Peak swelling. This is when people panic. Do not judge
anything. - Days 3–5. Swelling drops noticeably.
- Days 7–14. Settled. Small lumps usually resolve in this window.
- Day 14. Your actual result. This is when it is assessed and when any
adjustment is made.
Do not book lip filler within two weeks of a wedding, shoot or important event.
Bruising is common, swelling is unpredictable, and the result is not final until day fourteen.
Three to four weeks ahead is sensible.
Cold Sores — Tell Us Before You Book
If you get cold sores, injecting the lips can reactivate the virus and trigger an
outbreak. This is one of the more common avoidable complications in lip treatment.
Declare any history of cold sores at consultation. Antiviral cover started before treatment
is usually advised, and treatment is postponed if you have an active or healing lesion. This
is a simple precaution that avoids a genuinely unpleasant week.
Risks
Common and expected: significant swelling for two to five days, bruising
(frequent in lips), tenderness, small lumps that settle or can be massaged, and temporary
asymmetry while swelling resolves.
Less common: persistent nodules, migration above the border, cold sore
reactivation, prolonged asymmetry needing adjustment, and rarely allergic reaction.
The serious risk — vascular occlusion. The labial arteries run through the
lips, and filler entering or compressing a vessel can block blood supply, causing tissue
damage and scarring. It is rare, and it is reduced by slow low-pressure injection of small
amounts, correct depth, aspiration where appropriate, and an injector who knows where those
vessels run.
Hyaluronidase is kept on site at Dermabloom, with staff trained to
administer it immediately — it is both the reversal agent and the emergency treatment. Ask any
clinic this question before letting them inject your lips. Contact us immediately
if you develop severe or increasing pain, or skin that turns white, blotchy or dusky.
Who Should Not Have It
Not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; have an active cold
sore, infection or inflammation at or near the lips; have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid
or lidocaine; or have a history of severe allergic reactions.
Discuss before booking if you have a history of cold sores; take blood
thinners or antiplatelet medication; have an autoimmune or inflammatory condition; have had
permanent or unidentified filler in your lips previously; have existing migration; have
planned dental work or a recent vaccination; or have had a previous filler complication.
Aftercare
- Stay upright for four hours; sleep on your back for two nights.
- Ice gently in the first 24 hours to limit swelling.
- No lipstick or lip products for 12 hours.
- Avoid very hot drinks and food on the day — numbness from the anaesthetic makes burns
easy. - No gym, sauna, steam or hot yoga for 48 hours.
- No alcohol for 24 hours; it worsens bruising and swelling.
- No straws, no smoking, and avoid excessive lip movement on the day.
- No lip massage unless specifically instructed, and no facials over the area for two
weeks. - Keep lips moisturised with a plain balm once healed.
How Long It Lasts
Six to nine months typically — the shortest of any filler area, because lips are in
constant motion and metabolise product faster. Some patients see closer to a year, others
less.
Timing your top-ups matters more than you would think. Returning before
previous filler has substantially broken down is how product stacks and migration begins.
Waiting until the result has genuinely softened, rather than topping up on a fixed schedule,
is what keeps lips looking natural over years.
Lip Filler Price in Dubai
Lip filler in Dubai typically starts around AED 1,500 per syringe and runs to roughly
AED 2,500 depending on brand and clinic. Since 0.5ml to 1ml is the appropriate first
treatment, one syringe usually covers it — treat multi-syringe lip packages with
suspicion.
Product provenance matters especially here. Unregistered and counterfeit filler circulates
in the market, and lips are a high-movement, highly visible area to gamble with. Ask what
product is being used, see the box, and confirm it is UAE-registered. Dermabloom quotes a firm
price at consultation with product and volume stated — call
04 268 8226. Fillers are cosmetic and not covered by UAE
health insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much filler do I need for my first lip treatment?
0.5ml to 1ml — no more. One millilitre is about a fifth of a teaspoon and does
more than most people expect. Building across two sessions a few weeks apart gives a
better, more natural result than one large treatment, because the tissue accommodates
gradually. Anyone offering two or three syringes for a first lip appointment is
selling product, not planning lips.
What causes duck lips or that shelf above the mouth?
Migration — filler that has moved above the vermillion border into skin where it
does not belong. It is caused by too much product at once, placement that is too
superficial or outside the border, and repeat top-ups before previous filler has
broken down. Adding more makes it worse. The fix is dissolving with hyaluronidase,
letting tissue settle, then rebuilding properly.
How much does lip filler cost in Mirdif, Dubai?
Typically from around AED 1,500 per syringe up to roughly AED 2,500 depending on
brand and clinic. Since 0.5ml to 1ml is the right first treatment, one syringe usually
covers it. Ask what product is used, see the box, and confirm it is UAE-registered —
counterfeit filler circulates, and lips are not the place to gamble. Call
04 268 8226.
How long will my lips be swollen?
Lips swell more than any other filler area. Swelling builds over the first 24
hours, peaks at days one to two — often looking much larger and uneven — then drops
noticeably by days three to five and settles by day seven to fourteen. Your actual
result is at day fourteen. Do not judge anything before then.
How long before a wedding or event should I have it done?
Three to four weeks minimum, and never within two weeks. Bruising is common in
lips, swelling is unpredictable, and the result is not final until day fourteen —
which leaves no room to adjust anything if you book too close.
I get cold sores — can I still have lip filler?
Usually yes, but you must tell us before booking. Injecting the lips can reactivate
the virus and trigger an outbreak, so antiviral cover started before treatment is
normally advised. Treatment is postponed if you have an active or healing lesion. This
is a simple precaution that avoids an unpleasant week.
Will lip filler get rid of the fine lines around my mouth?
No. Fine vertical lines around the mouth are a skin issue, not a volume one, and
need skin treatment such as microneedling or a very superficial technique instead.
Lip filler also cannot shorten a long upper lip, which is structural. Heavy perioral
wrinkling with thin sun-damaged skin needs the skin treated first.
How long does lip filler last, and when should I top up?
Six to nine months typically — the shortest of any area, since lips move
constantly. Time top-ups by how your lips actually look rather than by a fixed
schedule: returning before previous filler has substantially broken down is exactly
how product stacks up and migration starts.
