Dermapen with salmon DNA in Mirdif, Dubai combines automated microneedling
with polynucleotide (PDRN) actives delivered straight through the micro-channels — the
strongest way to get salmon DNA into the skin short of injecting it. At Dermabloom Medical
Center, Villa 44C, 83rd Street, Mirdif, it is performed under Dr Sarah Magdy in a licensed
medical setting. Call 04 268 8226.
The pairing is not a marketing bundle. Microneedling works by causing controlled injury;
PDRN works by calming inflammation and supporting repair. One creates the stimulus, the other
manages the response — which is why this combination typically recovers faster than
microneedling with a standard vitamin cocktail.
Why Delivery Is the Whole Point
Intact skin blocks molecules above roughly 500 daltons. PDRN molecules are considerably
larger. Applied to closed skin and left to absorb, most of it never reaches the living
layers — which is why a salmon DNA serum wiped onto unbroken skin is a hydrating treatment,
not a regenerative one, whatever the marketing says.
Microneedling solves that. Thousands of micro-channels open a direct route into the
dermis, and the PDRN is applied while they are open. This is the difference between a product
sitting on your face and an active reaching the tissue that can use it.
What Salmon DNA Actually Is
PDRN — polydeoxyribonucleotide — is short DNA fragments purified from salmon milt. Salmon
is used because its sequences are highly compatible with human DNA. The purified material
contains no cells, no proteins and nothing capable of transferring genetic material. You are
not receiving fish genes.
Its mechanism is well characterised: PDRN acts on the adenosine A2A receptor and feeds the
cellular salvage pathway, producing anti-inflammatory signalling and support for tissue
repair. Polynucleotides have genuine clinical literature behind them, particularly for skin
quality, hydration and fine crepey texture around the eyes.
How the Two Work Together
- Needling creates controlled injury. The skin responds with
inflammation, then fibroblast activity, then new collagen laid down over weeks. - PDRN moderates the inflammatory phase. Its anti-inflammatory action
means less prolonged redness and a shorter recovery than needling alone. - PDRN supports the repair phase. The regenerative signalling arrives
exactly when the skin is rebuilding.
The practical effect: comparable collagen stimulation with a gentler recovery. For
sensitive, reactive or easily inflamed skin, that difference decides whether the course is
completed at all.
Dermapen with Salmon DNA or with Mesotherapy?
Both are Dermapen treatments. The infusion is what differs, and it should be chosen for
your skin rather than picked from a price list.
- Choose salmon DNA (PDRN) for sensitive, reactive or inflamed skin;
where recovery needs to be as short as possible; for skin quality, density and crepey
texture; for post-acne redness; and where the barrier is compromised. Repair-focused. - Choose
mesotherapy
for general hydration, brightening and uneven tone on robust skin that tolerates treatment
well. Broader, more cosmetic, usually lower cost.
Salmon DNA is the premium option, and honestly not always the necessary one. If your skin
handles standard microneedling without prolonged redness and your goal is brightening, the
mesotherapy version will serve you perfectly well for less. You will be told that at
assessment.
What It Treats
- Acne scarring — particularly where skin is also reactive or
post-inflammatory redness lingers - Poor skin quality — thin, dull, dehydrated skin that has lost
density - Fine crepey texture, especially around the eyes, where polynucleotides
have the most supportive evidence - Sensitive and reactive skin that needs collagen stimulation but
tolerates aggressive treatment badly - Barrier damage from over-exfoliation or unsuitable actives
- Enlarged pores and uneven texture
- Early ageing through genuine collagen stimulation rather than
temporary plumping
What it will not do: lift significantly sagging skin, replace filler for lost volume, or
clear active acne — needling over inflamed lesions spreads bacteria and worsens
inflammation. Active acne is controlled first, scarring treated after. That sequence is not
negotiable.
What Happens During Treatment
- Assessment. Skin type, Fitzpatrick classification, scar type,
sensitivity, medical history, medications and allergies. Needle depths and the PDRN
protocol are set here. - Numbing. Topical anaesthetic for 30 to 45 minutes.
- Cleanse and disinfect. Sterile technique, single-use cartridge.
- Needling. Systematic passes at depths set per zone — shallower around
the eyes, deeper over scarring. Pinpoint bleeding in deeper areas is expected. - PDRN delivery. Salmon DNA actives worked in while the channels are
open, and applied again as a finishing layer. - Calm and protect. Soothing mask and physical SPF. LED may be used to
settle inflammation further.
Recovery
Shorter than standard microneedling, but not absent. Plan for it.
- Day 0. Redness like moderate sunburn, warmth, tightness, some
swelling. Expected, not a complication. - Day 1–2. Redness fades toward pink, typically faster than with a
standard cocktail. Mineral make-up from 24 hours. - Day 3–4. Light flaking as the surface renews. Do not pick it.
- Day 5–7. Skin normal, often visibly better.
- Weeks 4–12. The actual result. Collagen remodelling continues for up to
six months after your final session.
Aftercare: no make-up for 24 hours; no gym, sauna, steam or swimming for
48 to 72 hours; no retinol, acids or exfoliants for a week; gentle cleansing only; and strict
sun avoidance with high-factor SPF. In Dubai’s UV, needled skin left unprotected can pigment
— and that pigment is harder to treat than whatever brought you in.
How Many Sessions?
Three to six sessions four weeks apart suits most concerns, with visible change from
around the third. Established acne scarring needs more — often six to eight. The four-week
interval lets one collagen cycle complete before the next stimulus; treating more frequently
inflames the skin without accelerating anything.
Judge the course three months after your final session. Collagen is slow, and the result
keeps improving long after the appointments stop.
Safety, Skin Tone and Who Should Wait
Microneedling causes no thermal injury, so it is safer on deeper skin tones than ablative
lasers — and PDRN’s anti-inflammatory action further reduces the risk, since
post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation follows inflammation. It is not risk-free: excessive
depth or over-treatment can still cause pigmentation on Fitzpatrick IV to VI. Conservative
depth, correct spacing and strict sun avoidance are what keep it safe.
Important — fish allergy. PDRN is salmon-derived. Declare any fish or
seafood allergy before booking. Purification removes proteins, but this must be assessed by
the doctor, not assumed.
Also discuss before booking: active acne or any skin infection; a history
of keloid or hypertrophic scarring; recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane), where timing needs
individual assessment; eczema, psoriasis or rosacea in the area; blood-thinning medication or
a bleeding disorder; recent sunburn; pregnancy or breastfeeding; and recent peels, laser or
injectables.
Price in Dubai
Dermapen treatments in Dubai range from roughly AED 550 to AED 3,000 per session depending
on clinic, area and what is infused. The salmon DNA version sits at the higher end, because
PDRN is a costly active — above the mesotherapy version, below injectable polynucleotide
treatments such as skin boosters. Course packages are materially better value, and since
results depend on completing a course, that is how most patients book. Dermabloom quotes a
firm price and course plan at assessment, before you commit — call
04 268 8226. Cosmetic treatments are not covered by UAE health
insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Dermapen with salmon DNA?
It combines automated microneedling, which creates thousands of controlled
micro-channels and triggers collagen production, with polynucleotide (PDRN) actives
derived from salmon delivered through those channels. Needling supplies the stimulus;
PDRN calms the inflammatory response and supports repair.
Why not just use a salmon DNA serum at home?
Intact skin blocks molecules above roughly 500 daltons and PDRN molecules are much
larger, so most of a topical application never reaches the living layers. On closed
skin it is a hydrating product. Microneedling opens a direct route into the dermis,
which is what makes the actives effective.
Should I choose salmon DNA or mesotherapy with my Dermapen?
Choose salmon DNA for sensitive, reactive or inflamed skin, for skin quality and
crepey texture, for post-acne redness, and where you want the shortest recovery.
Choose mesotherapy for general hydration and brightening on robust skin — it costs
less and works well. If your skin tolerates treatment easily, you may not need the
premium option.
How much downtime is there?
Redness like moderate sunburn on the day, usually fading toward pink faster than
with a standard cocktail because of PDRN’s anti-inflammatory action, then light
flaking around days three to four. Most people are presentable by day three. Plan
treatment so recovery falls on a weekend.
Can I have it if I am allergic to fish?
Declare it before booking. PDRN is salmon-derived, and although purification
removes proteins, a fish or seafood allergy must be assessed by the doctor before any
treatment. Never leave this until you are in the chair.
How many sessions will I need?
Three to six sessions four weeks apart for most concerns, with visible change from
around the third. Established acne scarring often needs six to eight. The four-week
spacing allows one collagen cycle to complete — treating more frequently inflames the
skin without speeding anything up.
Is this the same as Rejuran or polynucleotide injections?
No. Injectable polynucleotide treatments place the actives directly into the
dermis with a needle and have the strongest clinical evidence. This delivers PDRN
through microneedling channels — gentler, lower cost and lower risk, with the added
benefit of collagen induction from the needling itself, but less potent per session.
Dr Sarah Magdy will advise if injectables would suit your goals better.
Is it safe for darker skin tones?
Generally yes. There is no thermal injury, and PDRN’s anti-inflammatory action
further reduces risk, since post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation follows inflammation.
It is not risk-free — excessive depth can still cause pigmentation on Fitzpatrick IV
to VI, so conservative depth, four-week spacing and strict sun avoidance afterwards
are essential.
