Masseter Botox (Jaw Slimming) in Mirdif, Dubai

Villa 44C, 83rd Street, Mirdif Medically supervised +971 4 268 8226

Masseter botox (jaw slimming) in Mirdif, Dubai relaxes the chewing muscle
at the angle of the jaw — softening a square, wide lower face and, just as importantly,
relieving teeth grinding, jaw clenching and the headaches that come with them. It is the one
toxin treatment that is as often functional as cosmetic. At Dermabloom Medical Center, Villa
44C, 83rd Street, Mirdif, Dr Sarah Magdy assesses and injects. Call
04 268 8226.

Two different patients book this treatment. One wants a softer jaw line and a more oval
face. The other wakes with a sore jaw, grinds their teeth at night, and has a dentist warning
them about tooth wear. Both are treated the same way — and many people turn out to be both
without realising it.

Botulinum toxin type A is a prescription medicine. Botox® is one brand of it. Read the
risks and contraindications below before booking.

First: Is Your Jaw Width Actually Muscle?

This is the assessment that decides whether the treatment can work at all, and it is
routinely skipped. A wide lower face comes from three possible sources, and toxin only
addresses one:

  • Masseter muscle bulk (hypertrophy). Treatable. Clench your teeth and
feel the sides of your jaw — if a firm bulge pushes out under your fingers, you have muscle
    to work with.
  • Buccal fat or general facial fullness. Not treatable with toxin.
Relaxing the muscle will change nothing.
  • Bone structure — a naturally wide mandibular angle. Not treatable with
toxin either. No injection narrows bone.

Many people have a combination, in which case toxin delivers partial improvement. Being
told this honestly before you pay is the difference between a satisfied patient and someone
who spent AED 2,000 on a treatment that was never going to reshape their jaw. You will be
examined for it here.

Why the Masseter Gets Overdeveloped

  • Bruxism — grinding and clenching, usually at night and usually
unnoticed by the person doing it. The muscle enlarges like any muscle worked repeatedly.
  • Stress and jaw tension, including daytime clenching people are unaware
    of.
  • Chewing habits — gum, tough foods, ice.
  • Genetics. Some people simply have larger masseters, which is why this
treatment is especially sought after where a slimmer, more tapered lower face is the
    aesthetic preference.

The Functional Side: Bruxism and Jaw Pain

This is the half of the treatment that gets undersold, and for many patients it is the
more valuable half.

Relaxing the masseter reduces the force it can generate. That means less grinding damage,
less clenching, and relief from the symptoms that follow:

  • Waking with a tight, aching or tired jaw
  • Tension headaches, particularly at the temples and in the morning
  • Jaw pain when chewing, and TMJ discomfort or clicking
  • Tooth wear, flattening, sensitivity or cracked teeth your dentist has flagged
  • Facial and ear-adjacent pain with no dental cause

Functional relief arrives faster than cosmetic slimming — often within two weeks. It works
well alongside a dental night guard rather than instead of one: the guard protects the teeth,
the toxin reduces the force. If your dentist has raised grinding with you, mention it at
consultation.

Two Different Timelines — This Matters

Unlike treating lines, where everything is settled at two weeks, this treatment has two
separate clocks:

  • Functional relief: 1–2 weeks. Clenching force drops, jaw tension and
    grinding-related headaches ease.
  • Visible slimming: 4–12 weeks. Slow, because you are waiting for a
large muscle to shrink from reduced use. There is nothing to see at two weeks, and that is
normal — not a failed treatment.

Duration: 4 to 6 months, longer than facial toxin. And it improves with
repetition — because sustained reduced use causes genuine muscle atrophy, most patients need
two or three sessions to reach their full slimming result, then maintenance at longer
intervals. Do not judge this treatment on one session.

Your Appointment

  1. Consultation and examination. You will be asked to clench repeatedly
while the muscle is palpated on both sides, to gauge bulk, strength and asymmetry — most
people are noticeably stronger on one side. Grinding symptoms, dental history, medications
and any TMJ diagnosis are reviewed.
  2. Muscle mapping. The safe injection zone is marked. Placement here is
critical, and it is discussed below.
  3. Plan and consent. Units per side, expected timeline for both effects,
risks and price — agreed before anything begins.
  4. Injection. Deep into the muscle, typically three to five points per
side. The masseter is thick, so doses are considerably higher than facial areas — commonly
around 20 to 30 units per side, adjusted to bulk and often unequal between sides.
  5. Review. Functional effect at two weeks; slimming assessed at six to
twelve weeks, when the next session is planned.

Risks Specific to Masseter Treatment

These differ from facial toxin risks, and placement is the reason.

  • Chewing fatigue. Common and expected for the first one to two weeks —
tough steak, hard bread and chewy foods feel harder work. It settles.
  • Asymmetric or altered smile. The most significant risk, from injecting
too high or too superficially, where the toxin can affect the muscles that lift the mouth
corner. Temporary, but it is why the safe zone is mapped and injections placed deep.
  • Paradoxical bulging. An unusual outcome where part of the muscle bulges
on clenching because the deeper portion is treated unevenly. Correctable.
  • Asymmetry, since the two sides are rarely equal to begin with —
    addressed at review.
  • Over-hollowing with long-term use. Years of aggressive dosing can
reduce the muscle too far, giving a gaunt or sunken look at the sides of the face. This is
a reason for conservative dosing and sensible intervals rather than a reason to avoid
    treatment.
  • Also possible: bruising, tenderness at injection points, mild headache
    for a day or two.

Who Should Not Have It

Not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; have a neuromuscular
disorder such as myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome or motor neurone disease; have a
known allergy to botulinum toxin; or have an active infection at the injection site.

Tell the doctor before booking if you take aminoglycoside antibiotics,
muscle relaxants or blood thinners; have a diagnosed TMJ disorder — treatment may still help
but needs proper assessment; have significant existing chewing difficulty or dental
problems; have a bleeding disorder; have had jaw surgery or facial implants; or have had
previous masseter treatment, including when and how much.

Aftercare

  • Stay upright for four hours.
  • Do not massage or rub the jaw area for 24 hours.
  • No gym, sauna, steam room or hot yoga for 24 hours.
  • Go easy on very tough or chewy food for the first two weeks while chewing strength
    adjusts.
  • Avoid gum and ice chewing — it is part of what built the muscle.
  • Keep using your night guard if you have one.
  • No facials, peels or microneedling for two weeks.

Masseter Botox Price in Dubai

Masseter treatment in Dubai generally runs AED 1,500 to AED 3,500 per session. It costs
more than a facial area because the muscle is large and thick and needs substantially more
units — commonly 40 to 60 across both sides, sometimes more for very strong masseters.

Because full slimming usually takes two or three sessions, ask about course pricing rather
than comparing single-session figures. Dermabloom quotes a firm price at consultation with
units per side stated — call 04 268 8226. Cosmetic treatment
is not covered by UAE health insurance, but treatment for diagnosed bruxism or TMJ pain is
occasionally considered under some policies. Bring your insurer details and we will check.

Why Have It at Dermabloom in Mirdif

  • Injected by a dermatologist. The safe zone here is anatomically
defined, and injecting outside it is what causes an altered smile.
  • Diagnosis first. You will be examined to determine whether your jaw
width is muscle, fat or bone — and told plainly if toxin is not the answer.
  • Deep placement, mapped zone. The specific technique that protects the
    smile muscles.
  • Both indications taken seriously. If you grind your teeth, that gets
treated as a clinical problem, not a bonus feature of a cosmetic treatment.
  • Realistic timelines set upfront. Nothing visible at two weeks is
normal. Knowing that in advance prevents a lot of unnecessary worry.
  • Conservative dosing and sensible intervals, to avoid long-term
    over-hollowing.
  • Local and convenient. Villa 44C, 83rd Street — minutes from Mirdif City
Centre with easy parking, serving Mirdif, Mirdif Hills, Uptown Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Mizhar,
    Al Khawaneej and Rashidiya.
  • Evening and weekend appointments, and a female dermatologist as
    standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my wide jaw is muscle rather than fat or bone?

Clench your teeth firmly and feel the sides of your jaw. If a firm bulge pushes
out under your fingers, that is masseter muscle and it is treatable. Width from
buccal fat or from a naturally wide jaw bone will not respond to toxin at all. Many
people have a combination, giving partial improvement — you will be examined and told
honestly which applies.

How long until I see my face look slimmer?

Four to twelve weeks, because you are waiting for a large muscle to shrink from
reduced use rather than for a line to relax. Nothing visible at two weeks is entirely
normal. Functional relief from grinding and jaw tension comes much sooner — usually
within two weeks.

How much does masseter botox cost in Mirdif, Dubai?

Generally AED 1,500 to AED 3,500 per session in Dubai. It costs more than a facial
area because the masseter is large and thick, commonly needing 40 to 60 units across
both sides. Since full slimming usually takes two or three sessions, ask about course
pricing. Call 04 268 8226 for a firm quote.

Will it stop my teeth grinding?

It reduces the force the muscle can generate, which lessens grinding damage and
relieves jaw tension, morning headaches and TMJ discomfort — usually within two
weeks. It works alongside a dental night guard rather than replacing it: the guard
protects the teeth, the toxin reduces the force. Keep wearing your guard.

Will it affect my chewing or my smile?

Chewing fatigue with tough or chewy food is common and expected for the first one
to two weeks, then settles. An altered or asymmetric smile is the main risk, caused
by injecting too high or too superficially where nearby muscles lift the mouth
corner. It is temporary, and it is prevented by mapping the safe zone and placing
injections deep into the muscle.

How long does it last, and how many sessions will I need?

Four to six months, longer than facial toxin. Most patients need two or three
sessions to reach their full slimming result, because sustained reduced use causes
genuine muscle shrinkage that builds over time. After that, maintenance can often be
spaced at longer intervals.

Can my face end up looking sunken?

It is possible after years of aggressive dosing, where the muscle is reduced too
far and the sides of the face look gaunt. It is avoided by conservative dosing and
sensible intervals rather than by avoiding treatment — which is why dose and timing
are set clinically rather than by request.

Who cannot have masseter treatment?

It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with neuromuscular disorders
such as myasthenia gravis or motor neurone disease, with a known allergy to botulinum
toxin, or with active infection at the injection site. Declare any TMJ diagnosis,
existing chewing difficulty, dental problems, bleeding disorder, previous jaw surgery,
and all medications — particularly aminoglycoside antibiotics and muscle
relaxants.
